N. alata is commonly found in the mossy montaine forests of the Philippines from sea-level to about 2500m altitude. It varies quite widely in form and colouration may be green, pink or speckled as illustrated. In cultivation it is vigorous and easy to grow, being tolerant of a wide range of conditions.
