N. bicalcarata, upper pitcher, in habitat   Nepenthes bicalcarata
N. bicalcarta may be found throughout the island of Borneo where it grows in lowland sandy heath forest and peat swamps. It is characterised by two thorns resembling teeth which protrude from the upper region of the peristome. The pitcher is frequently inhabitated by golden ants. These ants have developed a method of robbing the pitchers of their prey without falling prey themselves. Pitcher colouration is commonly yellowish green or orange, rarely red. Cultivation is moderately easy - use an acidic potting media.
