| N. lowii has
spectacular tough, green, narrow waisted upper pitchers
with a dark red inner surface. The exaggerated narrowing
of the waist may prevent rainwater from diluting the
digestive juices in the bowl of the pitcher. By contrast
the lower pitcher is red on the outer surface and has
long nectar covered bristles on the lower surface of the
pitcher lid. Found in Borneo at altitudes of 1600m to
2600m, it inhabits mossy forests and exposed ridges.
Cultivation is slow and difficult and it requires a
well-drained potting media. |
